Kicad Library Location Mac
- KiCad is an active and dynamic open source project. As such, you should remember that there can be differences from one version of the program to the next. Because of the various quirks between operating systems, there may also be differences from the versions from one stable build to the next.
- Sep 19, 2018 I've been running Kicad on a mac (Osx 10.13) successfully for a while. Since I have upgrade to 5.0 release I seem to have completely lost the 'global' footprint libraries. They show as ghosts in footprint association and in pcb place but do not let me open or select them. If I had relied on the environment variable for the symbol library.

- Sep 20, 2013 You might have to open your default project (kicad.pro) and add the libraries, it should be located in kicad-install-folder/share/template. Make sure you do this for both the schematic symbols (eeschema) and the footprints (pcbnew), and save the kicad.pro file. I use the windows version, so I can't provide help on the Mac specifics.

Sep 09, 2013 1. Locate the Sample Folders to Move. Most of the samples for the sample based instruments inside of logic Pro X are stored in Macintosh HD Library Application Support Logic. The folders you want to move to your external sample hard drive. On your old Mac (and do this before you get rid of it!): Go to User Home Library Application Support Logic Sampler Instruments and copy all the sampler instrument files to your external drive. Installing the Mac version of KiCad on Mac OS[edit]
Nightly builds[edit]
Since February 2015, nightly builds of KiCad for Mac OS are available, making the installation process much easier.These nightly builds are available on the KiCad website . As nightly builds, they are the most up-to-date (and may also contain bugs).
'Traditional' install[edit]
First, download the Apple Mac OS version of KiCad from the download page.Also (is this really necessary?) download any Linux version of KiCad (to get documentation, templates, part libraries, etc.)
In the finder window, drag the Mac OS version of KiCad to the 'Applications' on the left sidebar.
Unzip the Linux version of KiCad (creating a folder named 'Kicad').
From a command prompt (is there a better way?) uncompress the Linux version
tar -xvf kicad_0.2linux.tar.gz
Move the documentation, templates, part libraries, etc. to the appropriate place with(this never worked; what am I really supposed to do?)
cd ~/Library/Application Support/mkdir kicadcd kicadmv ~/Downloads/kicad/kicad/demos .mv ~/Downloads/kicad/kicad-doc/internat .mv ~/Downloads/kicad/kicad-library/library .mv ~/Downloads/kicad/kicad-library/modules .
Then start KiCad.
/Library/Application Support/kicad(for shared libraries among all users), or$HOME/Library/Application Support/kicad(To get your own libraries)

An atomic parts library for KiCad.
The goal of the digikey-kicad-library library is to offer a collection of visually consistent and well defined parts that include assigned footprints. The library is intended to augment KiCad's default library and give users another choice in library paradigm (meaning that it is One Solution, not The Solution). It contains 1-to-1 symbol to footprint assignments to meet the needs of those who prefer that style. It does not currently include the idea of a one symbol to many footprints as that defeats the purpose of having an orderable part number ready for the Bill of Materials.

This is an early release to help refine what this library to going be and solicit feedback on organizational philosophy. The usable libraries are located in the digikey-footprints.pretty/ and digikey-symbols/Kontakt factory library download mac 7. folders.
Organization
The current organization of the library follows Digi-Key's family taxonomy, but this is subject to change based on feedback. The intention is not to offer a complete library that includes all of Digi-Key's parts, but to offer a useful subset which will grow over time. At this time capacitors and resistors have been excluded, but we are looking at a sane way to make this happen.
Library metadata will be updated regularly and symbols for parts which may not be readily available will have its corresponding status appended to each symbol name.

Contributing
Please make pull requests against the footprints and symbols in the src/ folder. There is one part per .lib and it should be named with the Digi-Key PN. ex 123-2245-ND.lib
